Announcement
Jim Tudhope, Chairman and Honorary Life Pipe Major of the Pipe Band passed away peacefully on 16th September 2011.  Jim joined the Pipe Band in 1964 and soon after took over as Pipe Major, leading the band to great success on the contest field including coming 3rd in the World Pipe Band Championships.  Jim’s great gift was teaching, especially youngsters and watching their progress through the band and going on to greater success with other bands.  If Jim Tudhope had taught you, they knew they were getting a good piper.  Jim himself was taught by the Harbour Master in Girvan, his home town.  Originally wanting to be a drummer, he was told they had enough drummers in the band and needed pipers, so Jim became a piper. He was called up for National Service but signed up for 3 years in the Royal Scots Fusiliers.  While in the army Jim went through the Army College of Piping Scottish Command Edinburgh Castle.  While on demob leave Jim was recalled to the colours for the Suez crisis and redrafted into the Royal Scots and served in the Suez campaign with them.

The members of the Pipe Band send their sincere condolences to Jim’s wife Hannah and family.

Jim’s funeral will take place on the 30th September 2011 at the Heart of England Crematorium, Nuneaton at 12.45 p.m. Family flowers only by request, donations to the Mary Ann Evans Hospice, Care of Co-op Funeral Service, 34 Central Avenue, Nuneaton, CV11 5BB.

Royal Review in Hyde Park on 12th May 1951
This picture was submitted by Gillian Gaunt.  Her husband was the executor of Mrs. Freda Germany and it was found amongst her possessions.  It shows the Pipe Band marching in the Royal Review in Hyde Park on 12th May 1951.  They were leading the Midland contingent in the march past, saluting the King and Queen.  One of the pipers, John Willacy, took park in that parade and still plays in the band now..
